Yucaipa’s next blood drive scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 6
Once again, the city of Yucaipa and the Yucaipa Rotary Club are partnering to host the city’s next blood drive. The blood drive, on behalf of LifeStream, will be held Wednesday, Sept. 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at City Hall in the Community Meeting Room.
LifeStream’s general requirements for donations include being at least 15 years old, weighing at least 110 pounds and being in general good health. Certain medical conditions and medications may preclude some potential donors from participating but anyone meeting the general conditions, as noted above, is encouraged to sign up to donate.
Older teens, ages 15 to 17 years of age, are also encouraged to donate. However, all 15-, 16- and 17-year-olds will require a signed parental consent form prior to donating. The parental consent form can be found at: https://www.lstream.org/wp-content/uploads/Young-Donor-Consent-Form.pdf. The first two pages of the Young Donor Consent Form provide both information specific to young donors as well as the actual consent form.
To best prepare to donate blood, donors are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids prior to donating and to bring photo identification with you. LifeStream also encourages blood donors to eat foods rich in iron and vitamin C to boost your body’s strength (think green veggies and citrus fruits) prior to donating blood. Also, a few healthy salty snacks can help make your next blood donation a positive experience (perhaps a few pretzels.) Lastly, don’t skip meals prior to donating. Think of your blood donation as a normal part of your day. Don’t skip or add meals in your normal routine. Just add in some healthy snacks.
Whereas walk-ins are welcome on the day of the blood drive, appointments are encouraged and receive priority. Set your preferred appointment time now by calling 800-879-4484.
