Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District Seeks Applicants to Fill Board of Education Vacancy

The Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District (YCJUSD) is seeking applicants for an existing vacancy on the Board of Education due to the passing of Board Member Jane Smith. The Board opted at a June 18 meeting to proceed with a provisional appointment process in selecting a new board member.

The new board member will serve as an “at-large” capacity for the remainder of what was Smith’s tenure which expires in November 2020. For the 2020 election, the board seat will represent Trustee Area 1.

Eligible applicants for consideration to fill the open board position must:

  • Be eighteen (18) years of age or older
  • A California citizen
  • A resident within the YCJUSD boundaries, and
  • Be a registered voter

Additionally, eligible candidates must not be disqualified by the U.S. Constitution or laws of the state of California from holding a civil office. Employees of the YCJUSD are eligible to serve on the Board of Education, however they must resign from district employment prior to taking office.

Applications for the YCJUSD Board of Education seat are due to the district Superintendent’s office by Friday, July 19, 2019 at 3:45 p.m. An Hoc Committee screening of applications will take place on Monday, July 22 at 3:00 p.m. and names of board candidates will be announced at the conclusion of that meeting. Lastly, board candidate interviews and the appointment of the selected individual will occur at special Board meeting on Wednesday, July 24 at 6:00 p.m.

All of the above meetings – and the submission of applications – will take place at the Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District Education Center at 12797 Third Street in Yucaipa.
