S.T.A.R.S. News: Fall Registration Opens, Recruitment of Recreation Leaders Underway
Yes, the weather is just now getting really hot and it seems like summer just got underway. But the planners for the coming academic year are already at work to ensure a good school year for Yucaipa’s youth.
Registration has just opened for the 2019/20 S.T.A.R.S. (Science, Technology, Arts, Recreation and Success) Before & After School Program. Registration can be completed online at: http://www.yucaipa.org/wp-content/uploads/CSD/RegistrationForm2109_2020.pdf or at the Yucaipa Community Center at 34900 Oak Glen Road in Yucaipa.
S.T.A.R.S. provides a quality, safe and affordable before and after-school program that strives to assist students to achieve higher grades and to improve school attendance and behavior for children from transitional kindergarten through eighth grades. The program strives to assist students in achieving higher grades and in improving school attendance and behavior. The emphasis is on creating lifelong experiences.
S.T.A.R.S. is available for both before and after school programs at the following school sites: Calimesa Elementary. Chapman Heights Elementary, Park View Middle, Ridgeview Elementary, Valley Elementary and Wildwood Elementary. A morning-only S.T.A.R.S. program is offered at Dunlap Elementary School and an after-school program is available at both Inland Leaders Charter School and Mesa View Middle School. The S.T.A.R.S. program is also now hiring Recreation Leaders for the 2019/20 school year to assists in the planning and implementation of children’s activities. These are temporary/part-time positions to supervise up 15 to 20 children in a group setting and help in monitoring and maintaining all supplies and equipment as well as the site’s location.
Qualifications for recreation leaders includes being 16 years of age or older and have a valid work permit (if necessary), possessing or obtaining a First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 60 days of employment and having a flexible work schedule.
