Plan Now for Yucaipa’s Free Oct. 6 Shred-It Event
Looking to safely dispose of some your personal documents? Over time everyone ends up with old documents that list personal information that, if not properly destroyed, can result in the wrong people gaining access to your Social Security number, tax information, bank account numbers and more.
Start planning now to take advantage of Yucaipa’s free Shred-It Event on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (or until the truck is full) at the Yucaipa Community Center at 34900 Oak Glen Road in the west parking lot. Not only is this event an opportunity to dispose of pounds of paper it is also a way to rid your home of unwanted/unneeded paper is an environmentally responsible way.
You can start now to gathering up old bank statements, tax records that are at least seven years old, credit card/debit card receipts, medical reports/receipts and old bills that you need to eliminate. Also, peel off the adhesive labels from old/expired prescription bottles and stick them on any disposable piece of paper and include this paper in your “to be shredded” pile. One of the newer ways to violate your privacy is for people to “lift” information from prescription labels and attempt to gain refills in order to misuse the medication or sell it on the black market.
Yucaipa residents (only) are encouraged to take advantage of this free service; you only need to bring to bring your most recent Yucaipa Disposal bill in order to participate. Each individual can bring up to four boxes or bags of paper to be shredded. The Yucaipa Disposal truck will be available until noon or whenever the truck is full so come early!
Participants are asked to remain in their vehicles at all times. Staff will remove the paper you want to discard and take it to the onsite shredder. For the safety of everyone attending the event, and to ensure that everyone is treated fairly, please drive through the line and observe all staff directions.
