By on June 15, 2019

OmniTrans, San Bernardino County’s largest public transit agency, is again offering discounted summer fares for youth ages 18 years and under. This is the third consecutive yer the transit agency has offered the discounted summer fare. However, for the first time, OmniTrans is offering the special discount for the months of June, July and August.

Riders 18 years and under may take advantage of the summertime promotion on any Omnitrans route, including Freeway Express, sbX, or OmniGo community circulators (regularly $1.75 for one-way rides) from now through August 31. Whether it’s a trek to the mall, the movies, the pool, your girlfriend’s house and maybe it’s transportation to that summer job, OmniTrans is making it easier for kids to get from point A to point B. Young riders should be ready to show bus drivers proof of age or school ID card to confirm eligibility for discount, if asked.

More than 39,000 $1 trips were recorded in June and July of 2017 when the Summer Youth Fare was first offered. Last year that number rose to nearly 50,000.

The discounted fare is also available on smartphones using Token Transit mobile ticketing at: To get started, download the free Token Transit app and go paperless. Pay using a debit or credit card then flash your activated pass on your smartphone to the driver when boarding. Young riders may also pay cash after boarding.

OmniTrans maintains a transit center in Yucaipa on 5th St. which opened in 2010. OmniTrans does not operate its bus lines on major holidays which includes both the 4th of July and Labor Day.

“Summer is a great time to get out and explore,” said Omnitrans spokesperson Wendy Williams in a statement “We hope the discounted summer youth fare will make it more affordable for youth and families to get to the community pool, a skate park, the library, a mall or the movies.”
