Distance Learning to Start 2020-2021 School Year

By on July 28, 2020

It’s that time again. School supplies are in stores and Yucaipa Calimesa Joint Unified School District offices reopen to take enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year and answer your questions.

It may not feel like the traditional back to school time of the year with the Governor mandating distance learning, but rest assured the teachers and staff at Yucaipa Calimesa Joint Unified School District have been working hard to plan for distance learning.

A letter to parents from Superintendent Cali Binks said, “We want to assure our community that our distance model is improved. Our teachers, administrators and curriculum leaders learned from our experiences last spring. The start of school will look different. We will ensure:

  • Teacher-led instruction,
  • Device and connectivity availability for students,
  • Focused on grade-level standards,
  • Scheduled/planned school days,
  • Required daily attendance, and
  • Normal grading policies

Our teachers and administrators will work diligently to ensure consistency of practices and the daily participation of all of our students.”

The District will be checking out Chromebooks to students beginning August 6 and classes begin August 13. For students that don’t do as well with an online model, paper packets will be available for pickup.

For those parents interested in homeschooling, YCJUSD has a PEP+ program for K-8 students, independent study (contact the school site) at all sites and the Yucaipa ConnectED Academy for YHS students (contact YHS).

The District has set up a website for parent updates including a list of frequently asked questions. You can find it at https://sites.google.com/ycjusd.us/ycjusd-fall-2020/home.
