Amateur Ham Radio classes

Did you know that ham radio can be used to talk with other people across town, around the world, or even into space — all without the Internet?  Amateur ham radio can be a fun, social and even educational hobby.  But, more importantly it can be a lifeline during times of need including power outages, earthquakes, floods, fires and other disaster situations.

The city of Yucaipa is offering a Ham Radio Technician Level class on Friday, Feb. 22 through Sunday Feb. 24. The times for the class sessions are Friday, Feb. 22 – 6 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 23 and Sunday, Feb. 24—8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Classes will be held at the Yucaipa Community Center at 34900 Oak Glen Road in Yucaipa.

The class is open for anyone aged 16 years and older. Participants will need to purchase the class textbook, 2018-2022 Technician Class, 9th edition by Author Gordon West. Textbooks are available for purchase at Yucaipa City Hall at 34272 Yucaipa Blvd. Participants can opt to take the certification class at the end of the class; a $15 testing fee will apply.

To register for the upcoming three-day class, go to: or call Kim Everts at 909-797-2489, ext. 221.
