Yucaipa Regional Park to host Trout Derby for Kids in February

If your kids like fishing and are between the ages of 7 and 15 make plans to have them participate in the Saturday, Feb. 10 Trout Derby for Kids at the Yucaipa Regional Park. Registration for the derby begins at 7:30 a.m. the day of the event; the derby itself is from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. State fishing licenses are only required for youth 16 years of age and older.

Prizes including trophies will be awarded for the largest trout caught during the derby’s hours on the day of the event. Prizes will include 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards. There will even be a trophy for the smallest trout caught during the derby! Prizes will be awarded at approximately 12:15 p.m. as the derby concludes.

All participants must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. However, adults cannot assist the children with casting or catching any fish and must stay outside the area designated for youth derby participants. Adults are welcome to fish nearby during the derby hours but must purchase a $10 fishing permit, possess a CA State Fishing License and remain outside the area designated for the youth derby participants.

The Trout Derby for Kids is sponsored by Friends of Regional Parks and is an organized event. A number of rules exist for the derby and park personnel have the right to disqualify anyone in violation of any derby rule. Fees for the Trout Derby for Kids are $5 per child and $10 for the vehicle entry fee. The derby will be held rain or shine.
