Yucaipa Performing Arts Center Presents Jarabe Mexicano on Friday, Dec. 13
Whether you’re already a fan or you’re looking to broaden your musical repertoire, make note of the upcoming performance at the Yucaipa Performing Arts Center (YPAC) by Jarabe Mexicano. The group offers a versatile songbook of Mexican Folk as well as Rock & Roll, Tex-Mex, Latin Rock, and Reggae-Cumbia. Jarabe’s dramatic, harmonized vocals in Spanish and English, performed on stringed folk instruments is accompanied by lively percussion.
Cultural anthropologist, distinguished author, and admirer Dr. Alejandro Lugo raves that Jarabe’s musicians “are truly excellent and bring new blood to the musical traditions they perform… their version of La Malagueña is simply the best I’ve heard in decades, if not ever.”
Jarabe Mexicano is known for the fruitful collaborations the group has formed with an array of both public and private organizations, academic institutions, and government entities–all in their effort to help bridge the frontiers between musical genres, diverse cultures, and generations. The group views every performance as an opportunity to create a deeper and more inclusive sense of family and community and are advocates for the arts and education with a special commitment to underserved communities.
The group’s quintet — lead vocalist Gustavo Alcoser, José Martín Márquez on requinto, Kevin Lomes on vihuela, Chris Behrens with his guitarrón, and musical director Danny Brito on percussion – stands out with performances that highlight the eclectic border spirit.
The Friday, Dec. 13 performance will begin at 8 p.m.; the doors to YPAC’s Indoor Theater will open at 7 p.m. Ticket prices are: $25.00 for adults and $15.00 for students, children, seniors and military members. Children 0 to 1 year-of-age are free.
