Yucaipa Performing Arts Center Hosts Grammy Award Winner Ramon Ayala
The Yucaipa Performing Arts Center continues its quest to bring first-class entertainment of all genres to Yucaipa to delight the diverse interests of the community. Norteño music superstar Ramon Ayala will take to the YPAC stage on Sunday, Nov. 3 with his signature songs and definitive instrumental styling that have made him a superstar on both sides of the El Rio Grande.
Ayala virtually invented modern conjunto music. He began playing the accordion, his favorite instrument, when he was just six-years-old.
Ayala originally teamed up with the late bajo sexto guitarist/vocalist Cornelio Reyna to form Los Relampagos del Norte. Together, the duo forged a distinctive sound and compiled a roster of songs that have since been covered by countless artists in contemporary Latin music including their first hit single in 1963, “Ya no llores.” The talented duo recorded a total of 20 albums leaving behind many classics such as “El disgusto,” “Devolucion,” “Mi Tesoro,” “Tengo miedo,” and many others.
In 1971, Ayala formed the legendary band, Ramon Ayala y sus Bravos del Norte. Within the year Ayala Ramon was already making a name for himself with his new vocalist, Antonio Sauceda. Ayala has won and has been nominated for several Grammy awards. In 2001 Ramon was awarded with an American Grammy award for the album “En Vivo… El Hombre Y Su Musica.” Ramon has also been awarded with two Latin Grammys for the albums “Quemame Los Ojos” and “El Numero Cien.”
