Anglers Alert: Yucaipa Trout Derby Scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 23
It’s time to get new line on your reel, clean up your tackle box and pick up some fresh bait. The San Bernardino County (SBC) Regional Parks has announced the next Yucaipa Trout Derby for Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Yucaipa Regional Park.
The Yucaipa Trout Derby will cost $20 pe person plus a $10 vehicle entry fee. A current California State Fishing License will be required for participants aged 16 years and older and the fishing license is required to be with the participant at all times.
Although the Trout Derby will begin at 7 a.m. when an air horn is sounded, the gates to the Yucaipa Regional Park will open at 6 a.m. Participants will be required to check-in and obtain a wristband for the derby. The wristband must be worn for the entire duration of the derby; fish will not qualify for derby prizes if the participant is not wearing the issued wristband.
Only shoreline fishing is allowed during the derby. No boats or float tubes will be allowed. Anglers are all to fish with only one, closely attended fishing rod. No hand lines are allowed. Additionally, snagging of fish is not allowed nor is catch and release.
Derby prizes will be awarded for the largest trout caught, as follows: $500 for first place, $300 for second place and $200 for third place. The derby ends at 1 p.m. and the winners will be announced at approximately 1:15 p.m. Winners do not need to be present at the announcement of the awards. However, derby prizes must be picked up from the Regional Parks Administrative Office at 777 E. Rialto Ave. in San Bernardino within 30 days of the Yucaipa Trout Derby or the prize will be forfeited.
